The Kamehameha Statue is a huge brass casting sculpture of the ruler who played the key role in uniting the Hawaiian Islands, King Kamehameha I. In the unification of the Hawaiian Islands, the Kingdom of Hawaii was founded in 1810. The outdoor sculpture was done by Thomas Ridgeway Gould in 1880 and was set up to its location in 1883. The living tradition is to paint the statue with vibrant colors. It represents not only the figure of King Kamehameha I but also the spiritual and cultural tradition of the community.
