The Battleship Missouri was built during World War II and launched on January 29, 1944. The USS Missouri is also known as the “Mighty Mo” or “Big Mo”. It is the third of its kind to be named in honor of the US State of Missouri. The Battleship Missouri was used in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. I was there a little while after 911. Everything was closed include Pearl Harbor attraction. Because it was closed for a little while I got a US Flag that was flown for a day on the Missouri for free. When it did reopen , I enjoyed it very much. My friend who half paralyzed on one side of his body used the same elevator that was used by Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Japanese surrender. My friend walked everywhere except in the gun turret. I sat in the Captain's chair. There is a more expensive tour that require hardhats to go down under but we didn't take that tour.
